Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame Induction 2017 - - Andy Marsh

THE GREATER LANSING AREA SPORTS HALL OF FAME

INDUCTION CEREMONY

2017

Andy Marsh

Andy Marsh was an exceptional Cross Country and Track and Field runner, both for Grand Ledge High School and for Michigan State University.  He received four varsity letters in each sport, both in high school and at Michigan State.

He qualified for the NCAA Cross Country National Championships three times and was the Captain of the Cross Country and Track Teams twice at Michigan State.  He was also Academic All-American and has the fifth best performance all-time at Michigan STate in the 10,000 meter run.

He also coaches track and manages cross country and track meets.

Andy Marsh was thankful for being included in the Hall of Fame.  He loved the simplicity of running and competing against himself and the constant striving to improve.  He cited some advice to keep his speech short and got a warm round of laughter.

He mentioned that track gave him an athletic outlet after he was not able to make his junior high basketball team.  He also gave thanks to Hall of Famer Coach Kim Spalsbury for mentoring him and helping him to improve.

His family is his rock.  He also still enjoys being part of the area running community and helping to produce track events.

Andy Marsh encourages people to volunteer to help young people to get involved in sports!
