THE GREATER LANSING AREA SPORTS HALL
OF FAME
INDUCTION CEREMONY
July 26, 2018
Bob Stragier
By Chuck Krafft
Bob Stragier
was a standout athlete at Lansing Eastern in the early 1950s. He won seven varsity letters and was a captain
in basketball and in baseball. He was an
All-Conference Baseball player and was inducted into Lansing Eastern’s Athletic
Hall of Fame in 2015.
He was also
a standout basketball player in Lansing’s City League. He held the League scoring record for a while
after he scored 59 points in a game.
The
Milwaukee Braves signed him as a left-handed pitcher. He had a 17-8 record in his first year in the
minors. He was on Milwaukee’s 1955
Spring Roster, but injuries brought a halt to his career.
Mr. Stragier
thanked the Hall for his award and jokingly asked if there was anyone in the
audience who had ever gotten a hit off him.
(Anyone who knows of my personal limited athletic ability knows I was
NOT one of them!) At his talent level, I’m
sure not many if any in the audience had ever gotten even a bloop single when
facing Mr. Stragier!!
