Jeff Tropf
had a great basketball career at Holt High School and at Central Michigan University.
He is Holt
High School’s career leading scorer with 1550 points; he averaged 23.5 points
per game. He was named All-State his
junior and senior years. His senior
year, his Holt Rams were the Class B Runner-Up in the State Tournament.
He played
briefly at Michigan State University; he left there after one semester in the
wake of a controversy not of his making.
After a brief stay at another college, he decided to try out for the
Central Michigan basketball team. At the
time, Central Michigan was a powerhouse in the Mid-American Conference and sent
a number of players to the NBA.
He also
excelled at Central Michigan as he was first team All-MAC with a 17.3 scoring
average. He led the MAC with 11 rebounds
per game. He was selected as Team MVP
one year and had an excellent 55% shooting percentage.
Because of
injuries, after he was drafted by the Portland Trailblazers, he never was able
to play in the NBA.
He has fond
memories of his career. He thanked his
family and noted that he also played on a great football team.
