THE GREATER LANSING AREA SPORTS HALL
OF FAME
INDUCTION CEREMONY
July 26, 2018
Randy Kinder
By Chuck Krafft
East Lansing’s
Randy Kinder was one of the finest football players in the Lansing Area’s
history. He led his 1991 team to the
State Championship. He was honored as an
All-Area, All-State and All-American football player.
He went on
to the University of Notre Dame where he ended his successful career as Notre
Dame’s tenth all-time best leading career rusher. (When you realize how many star players have
played at Notre Dame, this is no small achievement!) He led Notre Dame in rushing yards in 1994
and 1995.
He played
for the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football
Team; he made the All-Rookie Team as a special teams player his first year.
He was also
a track standout in high school and college.
In high school, he was the state champion in both the 200 yard and 400 meter
dashes. His 21.1 second two hundred
meter dash is Notre Dame’s record more than twenty years later! He was also named a track All-American at the
Indoor National Championships.
Randy
thanked his family. He met his wife
after his career was over. He joked that
events like tonight’s induction ceremony are his only proof (to his wife) that
his athletic career existed!
He
graciously credited his team for his success.
His advice to upcoming players was to cherish their times and their
teammates; life changes completely when you move past your athletic
career.
